Chatbots and Extremism: Risks, Policies, and Opportunities

The VOX-Pol Institute is hosting a one-hour closed webinar examining the intersection of conversational AI and violent extremism, at 16:30 (Dublin/London time). Chatbots have rapidly entered mainstream use, raising urgent questions about their potential misuse as well as their promise for prevention and countering violent extremism (P/CVE).

This session will feature short expert inputs on:

  • Assessing the threat of extremist exploitation of chatbots

  • Platforms’ policies and safety mechanisms

  • Positive use of chatbots for P/CVE

The event will open with a short introduction, followed by 7–10 minute contributions on each theme, and conclude with Q&A and discussion.
